Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about how WMU works, what ETAS offers, and what our qualifications are — and are not.
About WMU
Is WMU a traditional campus university?
No. WMU is a digital-first university registered in the State of California. There is no traditional physical campus; the University collaborates with approved training centres and partner institutions for localised support and blended learning.
Is WMU accredited?
WMU holds institutional accreditation from ASIC for the 2023–2027 term, is ISO 9001:2015 certified, and is a California-registered institution. WMU is a non-traditional, global online institution and does not claim U.S. regional accreditation (USDE/CHEA). Recognition varies by country and employer — see our Recognition page.
Is WMU a degree mill?
No. Qualifications are earned through genuine academic engagement — coursework, projects, and assessment by qualified faculty. There are no "buy-a-degree" formats.
How does enrolment work?
In brief: complete EAIA membership (a prerequisite managed by the Edu Assist International Association), choose your programme, submit prior qualifications or RPL evidence, and complete enrolment. The admissions team guides you through each step.
What is RPL / SWEP?
Recognition of Prior Learning through the Skill Workshop for Experienced Personnel (SWEP) allows significant professional experience to be recognised toward a Diploma, Degree, or Master's qualification, assessed by portfolio.
What do programmes cost?
Fees vary by programme, level, region, and delivery arrangement — see the Fees page, and contact the WMU admissions team for a current figure for your programme.
About ETAS and the engineering degrees
What is ETAS?
The School of Engineering, Technology and Applied Sciences — home of WMU's engineering degrees and its information-technology qualifications, offering a connected pathway from foundation diploma to research master's.
What majors can I choose?
A suite of industry-aligned majors, several with named tracks — from Communications & Digital Infrastructure to Intelligent Systems Engineering. See the Majors page for scope and careers.
What is the Integrated 4+1 Pathway?
High-achieving students can earn both a bachelor's and a master's in five years. Eligibility: minimum CGPA of 3.00 by the end of Year 3, strong performance in major courses, academic advisor recommendation, and Faculty Postgraduate Committee approval.
Are the engineering degrees professionally accredited?
Not currently — ETAS engineering programmes are not accredited by ABET or a Washington Accord signatory, and no such accreditation is claimed. Recognition for professional registration varies by jurisdiction and may depend on individual competency assessment. Read the important notice in our Enrolment Terms before enrolling.
Can I study fully online?
Yes — online and blended delivery is available now, so students anywhere can enrol and begin immediately. For campus-based study options, contact the WMU admissions team.
Can I start with the Diploma in IT and progress to engineering?
Yes. Diploma graduates may progress into the Bachelor in IT or, with appropriate bridging, into the BS Eng in Digital Systems — with advanced standing where appropriate.
Still unsure? Contact the admissions team — they'll tell you honestly whether a programme fits your goals.
